Institutional Effectiveness – The United Nations Association of the United States of America (UNA-USA) and Ambassador William H. Luers (also National President for the UNA-USA) recently commended the excellent collaboration between Richland College and the UNA-USA Dallas Chapter, LeCroy Center for Educational Telecommunications, and City of Dallas in implementing the Model United Nations and Going Global with the UN videos in the Dallas community. With the support of the LeCroy Center, Richland College earned the distinction of becoming the first institution in the country to stream the Going Global with the UN videos online. This Dallas community initiative experienced this success through the energetic leadership of Noeli Biggs, Richland College program services coordinator and coordinator for the Model UN at Richand.

Community and Economic Development – Richland College’s Multimedia Program faculty and staff were invited by the Estonian e-University to travel to Tallinn, Estonia, to conduct a one-week workshop covering multimedia software for use in online education. As guests of the Estonian Information Technology Foundation, Richlanders Olga Ivanova-Nuss, Genevieve Espinosa, Ken Starzer, Jeremy Roden, Tonya McMillion, and Martha Hogan traveled to Estonia over spring break to offer classes in Photoshop, Dream Weaver, Flash, Softimage, and Captivate to 40 Estonian faculty and instructional technologists. The Estonians were gracious hosts, and the course evaluations submitted by the students were very complimentary of the training.

Student Success – Congratulations to the editor and staff of Richland’s online edition of the Richland Chronicle which has been named by the Associated Collegiate Press (ACP) as a finalist for its Online Pacemaker Award. The Online Richland Chronicle is one of only 22 online college and university newspapers to be selected for finalist honors and one of only two online student newspapers selected from Texas. The Online Chronicle also earned finalist status in 2007. The Chronicle print version has also been recognized as a finalist this year and was a Pacemaker finalist in 2000, 2001, 2003, 2006, and 2007, winning the award in 2000, 2001 and 2007. The Pacemaker is considered the college equivalent of the Pulitzer Prize, and the ACP will present the Pacemakers during the National College Media Convention this November in Kansas City.

Employee Success – Dr. Sherry Dean, Humanities dean, served as a facilitator at the Dallas Dinner Table for the Wilshire Baptist Church on March 19. The Dallas Dinner Table, an annual city-wide event, promotes the sharing of diverse perspectives about the impact of race on the daily lives of Dallas residents. More than 900 people gathered at homes, restaurants, and religious institutions for this year’s Dallas Dinner Table event.

Richland Collegiate High School seniors continue to receive good news about university junior-status admissions acceptance and academic scholarship awards.
