On Saturday, April 19, steel drum “riddims” will enchant North Texans’ ears at the fifth annual Carnival of Steel music festival at Richland College, from 12-7 p.m. on the east side of campus. Admission is free.

North Texas’ premier steel band festival will feature performances by area high school, college and professional steel bands. Carnival of Steel is a family-friendly event as well as a cultural experience. Guests can enjoy exotic Caribbean food while experiencing the living art of steel band music. Festival goers also have a chance to shop at exhibition booths and meet the people who hand craft these unique instruments from 55-gallon oil barrels.

The Carnival of Steel is part of the Richland College Celebrates the Arts series and is sponsored by the Texas Chapter of the Percussive Arts Society and the Candlewood Suites. Richland College is located at 12800 Abrams Road in Dallas. For general information, call 972-238-6194 or visit www.richlandcollege.edu/carnivalofsteel for more details.
