Student Success
- Three Richland College student groups gained national recognition in recent weeks. Winning the “college journalism equivalent of the Pulitzer,” Richland College’s student Chronicle staff was named one of 55 Associated Collegiate Press Pacemaker Award finalists, winning 21 individual awards, of which only three were awarded to community colleges. The Chronicle was the only Texas publication named a finalist for both Print and Online Pacemaker awards. Richland College’s women’s soccer team placed third in the NJCAA Division III national championship tournament, and the men’s team defended its national championship, setting a record of five championships in six years.

Student/Employee Success - With 50 students, faculty, and staff attending Richland College’s Food for Thought series on November 14th, Vice President Tony Summers, Faculty Counselor Larry Polk, and Career Services Team Leader Warren Osby led a lively panel conversation on The Future of African American Males. Sponsored by Richland College’s African American Connection employee mentor group and SPAR, African American male students interacted with a multicultural group of session participants about insights and empowering actions that can be taken by all Richland College students and employees in working together to improve the future of African American males.

Institutional Effectiveness
- Ever committed to Richland’s vision to build sustainable local and world community and sharing in the United Nations’ goal to dream for a better world and play an active role in making that dream a reality, the Richland College Multicultural Center sponsored a Model United Nations Information Session for faculty and professional support staff on November 12th. The Model United Nations curriculum is available to Richland College faculty, professional support staff, administrators and students, and the session informed participants how to use the Model United Nations tools in their classrooms, community, and personal lives.
