T-Dust Alert #20 - Bundle Up in Layers for Comfort
WHAT? With temperatures predicted to drop into the low 30’s tonight, please dress in warm layers for maximum comfort and flexibility when on campus.
WHY? As described in T-Dust Alert #19, due to construction the ability to heat the campus has been interrupted.
WHERE? The temperature in all campus buildings will be affected.
WHERE ELSE? Hot water supplied by the boilers is also used to heat water in the swimming pool, showers, and restrooms.
HOW LONG? Estimates are that work will be completed and the ability to heat campus buildings will be restored by the end of the day on November 24.

T-Dust Alert #19 - Campus Heat
WHAT? Due to unforeseen mechanical conditions and challenges in connecting the new hot water system to piping underneath Pecos Hall and Sabine Hall, there will be a delay in providing heat to most buildings on campus.
WHY? The large boilers underneath Pecos Hall that supply heat for the campus have been removed to make way for new equipment being installed. This work is part of the Central Plant expansion project related to the new science building construction.
WHY? The heat has been off for several months while the old boilers were removed. Contractor crews are working around the clock to make the needed connections and expect the system to be operational on or before November 24.
WHERE? The entire campus can be affected until the new boilers are installed. Hot water supplied by the boilers is also used to heat water in the swimming pool, showers, and restrooms.
HOW TO DRESS? Although we have been experiencing rather mild fall temperatures, should the weather turn cold, please dress warmly in layered clothing, as needed, for maximum comfort.
HOW FUNDED? Demolition of the old boilers and installation of the new ones in the Central Plant expansion is financed by 2004 CIP bond funds.

T-Dust Alert #18 - Temporary Sabine/Pecos Sidewalk Closure for Utilities Work
WHAT? Due to a rupture caused in a 36-year-old HVAC pipe under Sabine Hall during the connection and testing of new piping installed in the Central Plant expansion, it will be necessary to temporarily close a pedestrian walkway to repair the piping connection.
WHERE? The temporary closure will be the sidewalk between the north end of Sabine Hall and the south end of Pecos Hall.
WHEN? The work will commence Wednesday, November 12, at 7 a.m. and take approximately one week.
WHO? Students, faculty, staff, and visitors parking in the D & E parking lots will be affected during this temporary sidewalk closure and may choose to find alternate parking during this repair period.
HOW? Temporary construction fencing and directional signage will be installed to direct pedestrians to the northwest ADA-accessible ramp entrance to Sabine Hall providing access to Sabine Hall, Crockett Hall, and the east campus.

T-Dust Alert #17 - Re-routing Sidewalk Around New West Plaza Construction
WHAT? In order safely to restore the remaining construction utilities connections from Sabine Hall to Crockett Hall and Alamito Hall, it is necessary to enlarge the new science building construction site and re-route the sidewalk path previously available through the West Plaza area at the intersection of Sabine Hall southeast, Crockett Hall southwest, and Alamito Hall northwest.
WHERE? The pedestrian path leading from the C and D parking lots past the south retaining wall of Hondo Hall and through the temporary, elevated Sabine ramp leading to the West Plaza area is now being re-routed and extended through the Sabine/Crockett Breezeway and past the southwest Crockett stair tower into the Crockett/Alamito Breezeway.
WHEN? The alternate path has been temporarily re-routed and construction fencing will be installed soon.
WHO? Students, faculty, staff, and visitors parking in the C and D parking lots will be affected by this re-routed sidewalk path but can still gain access to Crockett Hall, Alamito Hall, and the East Campus through this modified route.
HOW? Temporary signage will be installed to direct pedestrians through the altered sidewalk path.
HOW LONG? The West Plaza will be contained within the construction site fence until the new plaza/quad pavement work is completed near the end of the project in July 2009.

T-Dust Alert #16 - Temporary HVAC Shutdown for Central Plant Expansion Tie-in
WHAT? There will be a temporary air conditioning (HVAC) shut down in all buildings on campus except Kiowa, Uvalde, Verde, and Yegua.
WHEN? The shutdown will be necessary from 10:00 p.m. on Friday, August 29, to 6 p.m. on Sunday, August 31.
WHY? This temporary shutdown is necessary for HVAC pipe tie-ins to be made from the new Central Plant Expansion to all main campus buildings.
HOW? The Central Plant chillers and boilers serving the campus will be shut down, lines drained, water lines disconnected, new tie-ins installed, water lines refilled, and chillers restarted upon completion of the tie-in work.
WHO? For safety, security, and comfort, all main campus buildings are closed to all faculty, staff, and students during the Labor Day holiday and all other holidays.
WHO ELSE? Several Continuing Education ESL classes inadvertently scheduled to be conducted this weekend have been moved to Kiowa for this weekend only.
T-Dust Alert #15 - Power/Data/Phone/HVAC Construction-Related Shutdown
WHAT? The next phase of new science building construction will require a temporary shutdown of power, data, phone, and HVAC connections over a weekend.
WHICH? The August 8th weekend was selected because it is after the August 7th end of the Summer II term and minimizes interruption to instruction in most cases.
WHY? This shutdown is necessary in order to re-route power, data, phone, and HVAC connections from the Central Utilities Plant (Pecos Hall) to Thunderduck Hall through new pipes running beneath the new science building.
WHERE? The power, data, and phone outages will affect only Thunderduck, Alamito, Crockett , Neches, and El Paso (west) halls.
WHEN? The power, data, and phone outages will start at approximately 6 p.m. on Friday August 8, and last until approximately 6 p.m. on Sunday, August 11.
WHAT ELSE? The HVAC re-routing work involves the Central Utilities Plant (Pecos Hall) and the west plaza valve vault and will consist of valve installation and pipe work.
WHERE ELSE? The shutdown of the HVAC system will affect all campus buildings except the portable buildings (Kiowa, Uvalde, Verde, and Yegua).
WHEN ELSE? The HVAC shutdown will start at 5 p.m. on Friday, August 8, and last until approximately 6 p.m. on Sunday, August 10.
WHAT THEN? The chiller pipes will be refilled immediately following the completion of work on Sunday evening to re-establish normal HVAC service to all buildings by Monday morning, August 11. Please dress in cool, comfortable clothing on Monday, August 11, in case the AC temperature has not had time to recover fully in 14 hours and buildings are a bit warmer than usual.
T-Dust Alert #14 - HVAC Shutdown for Tower #6 Riser Valve Replacement
WHAT? There will be a temporary air conditioning shut down in Alamito, Crockett, Neches, and El Paso Halls.
WHEN? The shutdown will be necessary from 9:45 p.m. on Thursday, July 31, to 8:45 a.m. on Friday, August 1.
WHY? The leaking riser valve in Tower #6 in the Crockett Hall west stairwell needs to be replaced because the leak is causing water to pool at the new science building construction site, impeding progress in the basement area construction and pipe tie-ins.
HOW? The chiller serving those buildings will have to be shutdown, lines drained, water lines disconnected, two valves replaced, water lines refilled, and chiller restarted upon completion of the repairs.
WHAT ELSE? This process will potentially cause Crockett and Alamito halls to experience higher than normal temperatures during the morning of August 1, so please dress appropriately for comfort during the morning recovery period.
T-Dust Alert #13 - Richland East Drive New Exit Lane Construction
WHAT? Construction of an additional exit lane on the east side of the Richland East Drive, as it ends at the Walnut Street traffic light, will begin this week.
WHAT ELSE? There may be intermittent, brief traffic delays during demolition of the curb and concrete pour.
WHY? The intent of the project is to provide an extra lane for a more orderly, safe turn east onto Walnut Street during peak traffic and emergencies.
WHEN? The project completion date is August 21, 2008.
WHO? Project manager for the contractor, McMahon Contracting L.P., is Tomas Garcia, and Glenn Child is the Richland project manager. The project engineer is Kahison Wyandon of DCCCD Facilities Management, and the supervisory engineering technician is James Ryan of Neel-Schaffer Engineering.
HOW? This project is funded from the Richland fund balance in the amount of $124,000.
REVISED T-Dust Alert #12 - West Campus Water Service Interruption
WHAT? In order to complete the construction-related water main tie-in to Thunderduck Hall, it will be necessary briefly to interrupt water service to certain buildings.
WHEN? The work will be conducted from 11:00 p.m. to 3 a.m. on Wednesday night, June 4.
WHY RESCHEDULE? It was necessary to reschedule the work from Sunday morning to Wednesday night due to the City of Dallas Water Department inspector’s availability to certify the work when completed.
WHERE? The water service interruption will affect all buildings on the west side of campus.
WHO? This water service interruption will not affect any classes or student services since the work will be completed overnight.
WHEN ELSE? All restroom, water fountain, and laboratory water service will be restored by the time classes start and student services resume on Thursday morning at 8 a.m.

T-Dust Alert #12 - Thunderduck Hall Sunday Morning Water Service Interruption
WHAT? In order to complete the construction-related water main tie-in to Thunderduck Hall, it will be necessary briefly to interrupt water service.
WHEN? The work will be conducted from 6:00 a.m. to 10:00 a.m. on Sunday, June 1, 2008.
WHERE? The water service interruption will affect all buildings on the west side of campus.
WHO? This water service interruption will not affect any classes or student services, as the only classes and services scheduled that day are in Thunderduck Hall beginning at 1 p.m.
WHEN ELSE? All restroom and water fountain water service will be restored by the time classes and Prometric testing begin in Thunderduck Hall at 1 p.m.
